Block printing has a unique style unlike other art mediums. The design element is as much about the image as it is about the blank spaces around it. It is a bold statement generated by what the artist chooses to carve away or leave on the block.
Bio
Amy has been a block printer for over 30 years. Trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she received a BFA, she also studied with the renowned Khatri brothers from Gujarat state in India with their traditional natural dye methods. Most of her imagery is based on her personal connection as a backcountry explorer in the Southwestern landscape~the mountains & canyons of the 4 corners.
“The quality of a hand pulled print on handmade paper is what sets the work apart from digitized prints. Each print shows a subtle variation in ink saturation & pressure. Because it is handmade it allows for the freedom to vary the color as needed per print.
